Aunque nunca ganó ningún premio, la película The Band Wagon es hoy considerada por muchos como el mejor musical de Vincente Minnelli; algunos pueden estar en desacuerdo, pero hay poco debate sobre el atractivo de la partitura, compuesta casi en su totalidad por material de Howard Dietz y Arthur Schwartz. "That's Entertainment!" se convirtió en el himno del negocio del espectáculo, más grande que el "There's No Business Like Show Business" de Irving Berlin, y se consolidó permanentemente en la conciencia pública a través de tres documentales MGM usándolo como su título. "By Myself" es una canción seductora (cantada por partida doble por Fred Astaire), mientras que "Dancing in the Dark" es una delicia de sensualidad y "I Love Louisa", "New Sun in the Sky", "I Guess I'll Have to Change My Plan", y "Louisiana Hayride", que cantan Nanette Fabray, Oscar Levant y Jack Buchanan, son todos números musicales sólidos y deliciosos.
