On August 2, 2022, a sold-out, one-night-only West End concert performance of the iconic musical Chess took place at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London. Originally planned as a single date, a second night was added due to overwhelming demand.
Produced by the London Musical Theatre Orchestra (LMTO), the production featured an impressive 50-piece orchestra. The cast was headlined by West End favorites, including Samantha Barks as Florence and Hadley Fraser as Anatoly.
With music by ABBA legends Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and lyrics by Sir Tim Rice, the musical follows a tense Cold War chess rivalry between American and Russian grandmasters that is complicated by a dramatic romantic triangle.
