Based on the picture book by John Marsden and Shaun Tan, The Rabbits is a deeply moving story of progress, displacement and culture clash.
It tells an allegorical tale of the colonisation of Australia by "the rabbits" and the suffering of the Indigenous "marsupials", narrated by the ethereal Bird (played by composer Kate Miller-Heidke).
Music by Kate Miller-Heidke, libretto by Lally Katz, additional music by Iain Grandage.
